Are you Eligible for Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the world. The procedure slims and reshapes specific sections of the body by removing excess fatty deposits. This in turn can improve a patient’s body contours and proportions. On the other hand, how would you know if you are eligible for the procedure?

A consultation with your cosmetic surgeon will be the first step. The data gathering will involve determining whether the patient is close to their ideal weight range, which may require a check of their body mass index. In many cases, the patient should be between 15 to 30 percent above their ideal weight. Take note that the surgeon will need to learn your dietary habits, and will ask if you’ve made any effort to gain or lose weight in the past year. Patients will have to be off any medication and must not smoke at all.

Psychological testing may be recommended in certain situations. Cosmetic surgeons need to establish that the candidate understands the risks and consequences that come with the procedure. Moreover, the candidate needs to be mentally stable.

Liposuction can be used to treat pockets of fat in the body—specifically in the abdomen and waist; thighs, hips, and buttocks; arms, neck, and back; chest, calves and ankles.
